Abbreviation: Ausf.

model; the way in which something has been carried out

Used to denote the sub-version of a vehicle, usually using a letter, for example Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausführung A. The system was similar to the British Mark and the American A notation for equipment variants.

The letters were often, but not always, used alphabetically. The letter I was not used, as the upper-case I was typographically identical to the upper-case J.
