Description

The 2 cm Erdkampflafette 151/20 (20 mm ground combat mount 151/20) was a group combat tripod designed for the Machinengewehr 151/20 aircraft autocannon.1

The tripod was manufactured by the company Kyffhäuserhütte AG. In a letter dated 30 January 1945, two Versuchs-Erdkampflafette-Bataillone (experimental ground combat battalions) are described as being equipped with the weapon in November 1944. However, they had not submitted any experience reports by the time the letter was written. In the same letter the tripod is referred to as Erdkampflafette 44.2 Several photographs exist of the weapon both in use and after being captured by Allied forces.

The manual for the Erdkampflafette 44 and the manual for the MG 151/20 do not use the same ammunition names. However, the manual for the Erdkampflafette 44 also mentions that ammunition for the 20 mm tank and anti-tank guns were not compatible. The ammunition mentioned in the Erdkampflafette 44 manual was:34

  • 2 cm Brandsprenggranatpatrone 151 with light or glimmer tracer and burster.
  • 2 cm Panzergranatpatrone 151 with light tracer.
  • 2 cm Panzersprenggranatpatrone 151 with and without burster.
  • 2 cm Brandgranatpatrone 151 with light or glimmer tracer and burster.
  • 2 cm Panzergranatpatrone 151 (Ph).
